Congratulations to the MinM crew!
Huge CONGRATULATIONS to our Maths in Motion crew who found out yesterday they have qualified for the WORLD FINALS - three years running!
Yesterday, the maths in motion crew got to watch their heat of the semi-final competition. We started in a reasonably strong 8th position (out of 20) and soon made our way up to 6th, where we mostly stayed for the whole race. It wasn't a particularly exciting one (no one blew up, or ran out of petrol - but that's a sign everyone had programmed their cars well!) until it got to the last 5 laps....
We had already been told that to secure a finals place we either had to finish in the top 3 (that was starting to look unlikely...) OR complete the race in under 1hr 37mins 50secs.
With 5 laps to go, the race was only on 1 hr 20 something... the finals were looking like a possiblity.....
4 laps to go, 1 hr 30....
3 laps to go 1 hr 33....
2 laps to go 1 hr 36... were we going to do it or not?
FINISH... 1 hr 38... or so we thought, when we checked the finishing grid, we'd come 6th in a time of 1hr 37mins and 46secs - everyone was jumping and screaming; Miss Cannon was nearly crying and Mrs Reeve had to come in the classroom because she was concerned about the noise!
Well done team - this is the third year we have qualified and we have written to the local paper, so keep eyes peeled. The finals are on Wednesday 19th June - we will keep you updated on arrangements - we'd like the whole school community to hopefully come and support this year!
